History of the Cocoa Village Playhouse- Established as the Aladdin Theater, the doors opened to the public on August 18th, 1924, showing silent movies. Later, Brevard’s first “talkie” movie house became known as “the showplace of the Indian River Section”. Several owners and several decades later, the building was purchased by the City of Cocoa and renamed The Cocoa Village Playhouse.

Historic Cocoa Village is
the oldest part of town. There are sections of cobblestone streets that date
back to the 1890s and buildings (now restored) that were here at the turn of
the last century; places like the 1916 Porcher House and the still active 1924 Cocoa Village Playhouse.
Architecturally, Cocoa Village is almost frozen in
time, but when it comes to retail and restaurants it’s right up to date. All enveloped within the heart of modern-day Cocoa, this is a charming little
district that’s easy to see on a casual stroll, one that will take you back to
an era before shopping malls. There are several dozen boutiques and gift
shops, plus antique stores, sidewalk cafes and art galleries
-- and a
bounty of street festivals and parties.

THE SEASON - (3) Shows

The Drowsy Chaperone- Music & Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison
Book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar-Presented through special arrangements with Music Theatre International (MTI)-With the house lights down, a man in a chair appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life and The Drowsy Chaperone begins as the man in the chair looks on. Mix in two lovers on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and an intoxicated chaperone, and you have the ingredients for an evening of madcap delight. This hilarious Tony Award-winning musical farce features one show-stopping song and dance number after another.

Sister Act- Music by Alan Menken, Lyrics by Glenn Slater, Book by Cheri Steinkellner and Bill Steinkellner
Additional Book Material by Douglas Carter Beane, based on the Touchstone Pictures Motion Picture, Sister Act, written by Joseph Howard. Presented through special arrangements with Music Theatre International (MTI).
When disco diva, Deloris Van Cartier, witnesses a murder, she is put in protective custody in the one place the cops are sure she won't be found: a convent! Using her unique disco moves and singing talent to inspire the choir, Deloris breathes new life into the church and community but, in doing so, blows her cover. Soon, the gang is giving chase, only to find them up against Deloris and the power of her newly found sisterhood. Based on the hit film, this high energy musical is filled with powerful gospel music, outrageous dancing and a truly moving story.

OKLAHOMA- Music by Richard Rodgers, Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, Presented through special arrangements with Concord Theatricals, on behalf of The Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization. In a Western territory just after the turn of the 20th century, a high-spirited rivalry between local farmers and cowboys provides a colorful background for Curly, a charming cowboy, and Laurey, a feisty farm girl, to play out their love story. Their romantic journey, as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road, contrasts with the comic exploits of brazen Ado Annie and hapless Will Parker in a musical adventure embracing hope, determination and the promise of a new land.
